Originally from the Mountain West, Nick grew up in the event industry working alongside his cousin at her event design and planning company in Logan, Utah. A naturalist at heart, Nick shares his father’s passion for hiking and his mother’s love of gardening and horticulture, all of which influence his design aesthetic. He is thrilled that his path has led him to Chicago and the HMR team.
After graduating from Utah State University and spending two years in Russia, Nick moved to Washington D.C. to work in the Senate. Drawn to politics and government, he loved the organization and challenge of his career, but craved an artistic outlet. Following his heart led him back to his roots in the event industry where he worked for premiere catering and event decor firms in the D.C. area. Nick enthusiastically joins HMR Designs and looks forward to creating the impeccable, memorable and innovative events his clients have come to expect.
Why do you enjoy what you do?
There is nothing more rewarding than exceeding expectations or surprising someone I’ve worked very hard for. Clients can only see and touch so much before the actual day, so building that trust with them is what I value most about what I do.
What do you look forward to about your workday?
I look forward to walking into the floral department and seeing what is being designed for the day. I enjoy starting my day expecting to be somewhere or do something and have the day wind up completely differently – no two days are alike.
Where can you be found while not designing events?
I still love keeping up with politics; it’s in my blood. I’m a voracious reader – especially newspapers and magazines. I also love pop, punk and classical music – my gym mix is a real situation!
When I’m with my friends I could be doing just about anything and be happy, but we love to try new restaurants, concerts…we travel. They would tell you I love to tell stories and laugh.
