Milwaukee Art Museum Wedding Feature

As Pride Month comes to an end, we wanted to take time and reflect on a same-sex marriage that we hold dear to our heart. Meet Zach and Rico. Their sophisticated Milwaukee Art Museum wedding was set to impress guests with glamorous decor details met with an understated elegance. And though this wedding took place prior to 2020, it was, incidentally, designed by our team virtually. Speaking with Natalie Walsh, the Event Designer behind this stunning celebration, we delved deep behind the scenes for details on her chic decor, the virtual planning process, and her favorite moments with this sweet couple. Read on for more!

How did you design this wedding virtually?

It was very collaborative. We did all of the pre-mock up design remotely by email and phone, sending photos back and forth and discussing what we liked about various props, inspo pics, etc. Working in tadem with their wedding planner, Heather Vickery, I sent them ideas, they edited down a visual list of likes, and we jumped off from there! For the mock-up, they were able to come to our studio to see everything live, but if you can’t come to us, Zoom mock ups are always an option. Honestly, it couldn’t have been easier and they loved everything!

What did the grooms want to highlight about their day?

The amazing architectural setting is what brought them to the Milwaukee Art Museum, so that was number one. And number two? They wanted to make all of their guests (especially the wedding party) feel special!

What was the inspiration behind this decor?

Zach and Rico wanted their wedding to be elegant and glamorous, but not over the top. Their inspiration came from a Miami-White party, and we turned it into a fun dinner party vibe to align with their wish for the reception to be both festive but intimate.

As the Designer, what was your favorite decor element of this wedding?

Their custom acrylic quote on the boxwood ceremony wall. It is their favorite love quote, “Prend moi tel que je suis,” meaning, “Take me as I am.” We also repurosed the boxwood wall later in the day as the backdrop to the cake cutting and dinner.

What was the most memorable part of this wedding?

They had wild custom bridesmaids gowns and did an amazing dance routine for their guests with their entire wedding party! But the most memorable part of this wedding day for me was when they asked for all of the vendors to come to take a picture, arm, and arm with them because they loved working with us each so much. That really means so much, I take that to heart.
